Nasty Gal’s eBay Auction

I don’t know about you, but for me, this week is going to be crazy! Full of travel, events, my man’s birthday, and out of town company for the holiday weekend in addition to the usual client meetings, work, and of course AOC Blog! So, I’ll be coming to you with some quick posts! Today I absolutely MUST share with you a limited time event: Nasty Gal’s eBay Auction!

Sophia Amoruso aka #GIRLBOSS aka The Original Nasty Gal is getting back to her roots with an event on eBay. In June 2008 (almost six ears ago!), Amoruso grew her thriving eBay shop, Nasty Gal Vintage, into the impressive empire we know today as Nasty Gal. Amoruso is revisiting her beginnings with an auction of extraordinary designer vintage pieces right from her own closet. The proceeds will go her latest venture, The #GIRLBOSS Foundation, a nonprofit Amoruso is launching in conjunction with her first book, #GIRLBOSS (yes, this girl is on fire!). It’s really all quite poetic. The #GIRLBOSS Foundation’s mission is to empower the next generation of female entrepreneurs in the creative community through a distinctive grants program that provides women in the fields of design, fashion, music, and the arts with the financial support to achieve their goals. The auction began yesterday and will run for the next ten days, ending Thursday, May 29. Below are some of my favorite pieces, available for bid now!

Midweek Motivation

Sometimes the middle of the week just hits us like a hefty credit card bill. We’re overwhelmed, overextended, and overworked. There’s accomplishment in knowing the week is halfway over, yet we’ve still got so much to do in the next two days and the weekend feels so far away. If you’re like me, your reaction is denial: avoid, zone out, distract, escape. I typically turn to social media looking for some mindless reading, creative inspiration, or just some good old midweek motivation. My particular sluggishness during this midweek slump triggered me to create an inspiration board for all of you out there who may have the same case of the Wednesday-blahs. So before you head to bed, do one last thing for yourself on this Wellness Wednesday and enjoy some midweek motivation! Thursday is almost here, Friday is right around the corner, and the weekend is just about in our reach. We can do it!

As One Store Closes, Another Store Opens

I have good news and bad news. Such is the cycle of retail: as one store closes, another store opens. Let’s start with the bad news and end on a good note.

As one store closes…

The quirky Brooklyn based shop Fred Flare will close its virtual doors next week. Now through Thursday, November 21, shop their most epic sale. Of course, all sales are final, but the deals are unbeatable. If you’ve got some gift swaps this season or are looking for some stocking stuffers, this is the place to go. Check out my picks to the items to snag below!

2. Holly GoNightly Sleep Mask, $9.99

Now for the good news. Nasty Gal has plans to open brick and mortar stores! Sophia Amoruso, the mastermind behind the brand, hasn’t released any specifics yet about where or when we can expect to see the first grand opening. However, LA residents should definitely keep their eyes and ears open. Last Wednesday, November 13, Amoruso Tweeted: We are opening stores. District Manager needed for LA region! I can’t wait til more details are released. This brand is on fire!

Stacy London has teamed up with Baublebar to create the ultimate holiday gift guide. When in doubt, gift a girl some jewels! London weighs in with her picks for best statement pieces, layered looks, and timeless classics. If you’re looking for a gift for your mom, your sister, or your girls this holiday season, this guide has got a look to please every uniquely styled lady in your life! The 90’s Trend that Actually SHOULD Come Back

Cole Haan Chelsea Low Pump, $298

Cole Haan Chelsea Low Pump, $298

Many ladies would argue that I’m not a true fashionista for the following reason: I’m 5’2″ and refuse to wear a heel over 4 inches. I know you tall ladies are fuming at me for not taking advantage of the ability to wear 6-inch pumps and only be 5’8.” After years and years on pointe shoes back in my ballet days, I refuse to torture my feet any longer! So, it’s no wonder I’m rejoicing at this 90’s comeback: the court pump. And the heel height is (drum roll please…), 3.5 inches or less!

P.S. My philosophy is: you can have it all and never pay full price. See how much (or rather little) I snagged these pumps for from Rue La La. The deal is over now, but Cole Haan is a brand that recurs on many members only deal sites like Rue La La, so stay on the lookout!

Swoon-Worthy Campaigns

Banana Republic Holiday 2013

Banana Republic Holiday 2013

Tis the season for remarkable holiday and resort campaigns that make our wishlists runneth over. Popsugar has highlighted seven campaigns they find particularly swoon-worthy. Of their picks my personal fave is probably the Nicole Kidman for Jimmy Choo Resort 2014 collection I featured on the blog a few weeks ago. However, I’m also loving the Banana Republic ad. If this doesn’t say classic holiday campaign, I don’t know what does! Check out the complete list here.
