Highlights from Day 5 of NYFW F/W 2014

CAROLINA HERRERA

Carolina Herrera is a Venezuelan American fashion designer known for her elegant and graceful personal style. Her dramatic, feminine, and refined designs have been influential in the fashion industry for over three decades. The Fall 2014 collection features a playful mix of textures and patterns. There is a perfect balance of geometric prints and solids as well as pops of fur and sparkle. All of the silhouettes are distinctly feminine from dresses to separates. Some of my favorite ensembles from the collection are the warm gray layered looks and the stunning printed maxi dresses.

MILLY

milly nyfw fw 2014 runwayMilly is a contemporary fashion brand founded by American fashion designer Michelle Smith in 2001. While studying fashion, Smith worked at the Hermes boutique in Manhattan, and after graduating, she wrote the President of Hermes requesting an internship at the fashion house’s Paris headquarters. Smith’s request was granted, and she became the first American employee to be sent to Paris to work with Hermes. Needless to say this adventure jump started the designer’s career, and after spending three years in Paris she returned to the United States to establish her own brand. The Fall 2014 collection epitomizes the brand’s bold, feminine, and edgy aesthetic with an array of fabrics and textures. The palette of the collection consists of gorgeous neutrals with lots of fur and flounce! The all black looks have been the best I’ve seen in a Fall 2014 collection so far, however my absolute favorite piece is the gold leopard print skirt (pictured in the top middle above).

REMEMBER! I’ll be watching many of the shows streaming LIVE on the Mercedes Benz site and LIVE Tweeting during the shows. After the show ends, I’ll post a clip of the final walk on my Instagram, so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram @cmcross (or in the right sidebar!) for all things NYFW.

Highlights from the Weekend: Day 3 and Day 4 of NYFW F/W 2014

I decided to take most of the weekend off from New York Fashion Week, but as well all know, fashion never sleeps.

Social media is a great way to follow along with fashion week and keep up with the must-see looks and trends. So, for the past couple days I have been following along with NYFW through some of my favorite fashion sources on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Instragam is a wonderful platform to get a full-circle glimpse into the fashion shows from styling backstage to the final walk. Although fashion week is first and foremost about the apparel in the upcoming collections, there is a great deal of time and energy put into each and every show from model selection to catwalk choreography to hair and makeup and countless things in between. Some of my most beloved beauty brands have been lucky enough to work with some famed designers on styling their shows. So, I’ve complied a number of Instagram images to showcase the highlights from the weekend: Day 3 and Day 4 of NYFW F/W 2014 from backstage to the runway!

Tibi’s beauty look consisted of a bold Bordeaux lip by Bobbi Brown, a unique mini Mohawk braid by Aveda, and nude nails with a touch of sparkle. The Fall 2014 collection features chunky layered looks in both soft pastels and bold hues. The menswear-inspired sweaters and outerwear look so lush and inviting for the cool weather months

Herve Leger’s beauty look featured a dramatic eye, a pop of color in a high pony by Bumble and Bumble, and a nude nail by Essie. The Fall 2014 highlights a balance of fitted silhouettes and movement in an array of colors from neons to blush tones to nudes.

Derek Lam’s beauty look showcased a deep smokey eye and a soft pink lip stain by Estee Lauder and a nude nails. The Fall 2014 collection is a mix of sporty yet chic over-sized menswear inspired ensembles and feminine yet structured looks. There is also a variety of color in the collection with both warm earthy tones and pops of pastel.

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG

dvf nyfw fw 2014 runway 1

The Diane Von Furstenberg show was my must-see show of the weekend. The Belgian American fashion designer is celebrating a milestone year commemorating her iconic wrap dress, which is her signature look that jump started her career in the fashion industry forty years ago at the young age of 26! During the pre-show, Diane Von Furstenberg explained the inspiration behind the famed wrap dress: the ballerina wrap sweater. In honor of the wrap dress and its inspiration, the beauty look for her Fall 2014 show, Bohemian Wrapsody, was ballet inspired makeup and hair buns. Before the show, the designer encouraged her models to “be strong, feel sexy, be you, and smile.” The DVF brand truly embodies my goal for 2014 to FEEL GOOD and LOOK GOOD.

The show kicked off with a number of black and white looks in classic DVF patterns. My favorite neutral piece is the black and tan fur jacket featured above. The rest of the Fall 2014 collection consisted of rich jewel tones in a number of iconic DVF prints and wrap styles. The show concluded with a special and memorable finale as each model took the runway in a gold wrap dress. Next the models congregated onstage with St. Vincent, who provided live music for the show as part of the AmexUnstagged partnership. As the models danced to the music, Diane Von Furstenberg hit the catwalk then joined the models and the band for a gold confetti filled finale. I think it’s safe to say that this show ended with the “happiness and joy of life” that DVF intended.

REBECCA MINKOFF

minkoff nyfw fw 2014

Rebecca Minkoff is an American fashion designer and industry leader in accessible luxury apparel and accessories. She is best known for her iconic handbags that are subtly edgy yet timeless. The designer is also an inspiration to all girls who aspire to work in the fashion industry. Minkoff lived out her own version of the American dream at the young age of 18 when she moved to New York City to pursue fashion design. Now, she leads a global lifestyle brand and is an active member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Minkoff’s Fall 2014 collection stays true to her brand by being accessible and inspirational to women with all styles from all walks of life. There is notably an infusion of menswear in the collection, however Minkoff made the looks feminine with pops of color and accessories. Metallic tops and bottoms and trench coats of varying silhouettes were other stand outs from the show.

NICOLE MILLER

nicole miller nyfw fw 2014

Nicole Miller is an American fashion designer known for creating modern, refined, and feminine apparel. Miller is highly trained in fabric manipulation and classical techniques of couture, both of which are signatures of her designs. Crafting stunning all-black looks has also become part of Miller’s signature style, and the black looks from her Fall 2014 collection are some of my personal favorites. What girl doesn’t love a fabulous black dress or perfectly paired black skirt and top? There are three other looks that were standouts from Nicole Miller’s Fall 2014 show: the leather studded mini skirt, the knee length plum fur vest, and the peacock prints (the peacock dress pictured above is my personal favorite).

Highlights from Day 1 of NYFW F/W 2014

IT’S DAY ONE OF NEW YORK FASHION WEEK!

Day 1 will be wrapping up soon, and there have been some exciting shows today. Each day of NYFW, I’ll be watching many of the shows streaming LIVE on the Mercedes Benz site and LIVE Tweeting during the shows. After the show ends, I’ll post a clip of the final walk on my Instagram, so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram @cmcross (or in the right sidebar!) for all things NYFW. Then, I’ll be coming to the blog to discuss my highlights from the day. So, without further ado, here are my highlights from Day 1 of NYFW F/W 2014!

CREATURES OF THE WIND

creatures of the wind fall 2014

Creatures of the Wind is a Chicago based brand that was founded in 2007 by Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters. They made it big in the fall of 2010 with their Spring/Summer 2011 collection. With their Fall 2014 collection, the brand stays true to their name with bold earthy tones and prints. The bright yellow sweater and dusty orchid blazer featuring the wood ring pattern as well as the metallic reptile print skirt are some of my favorite nature inspired looks from the line.

TADASHI SHOJI

tadashi fall 2014

Tadashi Shoji is a Japanese American fashion designer known for his stunning dresses from evening wear to red carpet looks to bridal gowns. Until today, I was not too familiar with the designer, but his Fall 2014 show was the standout of the day for me. I loved each look that came down the runway more than the last. The show kicked off with several breathtaking cutout cocktail dresses, and the looks only got more gorgeous from there. From bold jewel tones to classic black and white, Tadashi Shoji can do no wrong in my book!

DESIGUAL

desigual fall 2014

Desigual is a Spanish brand known for its bright colors, bold patterns, and fun and flirty silhouettes. I discovered Desigual last fall when they presented at NYFW for the first time. The brand was particularly memorable for its very atypical catwalk featuring girls dancing down the runway blowing kisses. I had never seen a show with such a great energy, and this year they delivered the same positive vibe while presenting their Fall 2014 collection. Some of the standouts from the show were the trench coats, ombre prints, and pops of bright color on primarily black and white looks.

Cabin Fever

I cannot believe this cold is still bringing me down. Last night I attempted to rally because I’m developing a serious case of cabin fever, and today total bleh again! Urgh, I know some of you out there feel my pain. So, for those of you tied to the tissue box like me, I’m in for a night of more TV and more social media surfing. Hopefully I’ve got some videos that will brighten your evening in bed. Click the links to watch!

P.S. Who is going to celebrate with me out on the town when I rid myself of this freaking sickness? I’m already dreaming of a cocktail dress and an actual cocktail. Cold, cold, go away!
