I decided to take most of the weekend off from New York Fashion Week, but as well all know, fashion never sleeps.
Social media is a great way to follow along with fashion week and keep up with the must-see looks and trends. So, for the past couple days I have been following along with NYFW through some of my favorite fashion sources on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Instragam is a wonderful platform to get a full-circle glimpse into the fashion shows from styling backstage to the final walk. Although fashion week is first and foremost about the apparel in the upcoming collections, there is a great deal of time and energy put into each and every show from model selection to catwalk choreography to hair and makeup and countless things in between. Some of my most beloved beauty brands have been lucky enough to work with some famed designers on styling their shows. So, I’ve complied a number of Instagram images to showcase the highlights from the weekend: Day 3 and Day 4 of NYFW F/W 2014 from backstage to the runway!
Tibi’s beauty look consisted of a bold Bordeaux lip by Bobbi Brown, a unique mini Mohawk braid by Aveda, and nude nails with a touch of sparkle. The Fall 2014 collection features chunky layered looks in both soft pastels and bold hues. The menswear-inspired sweaters and outerwear look so lush and inviting for the cool weather months
Herve Leger’s beauty look featured a dramatic eye, a pop of color in a high pony by Bumble and Bumble, and a nude nail by Essie. The Fall 2014 highlights a balance of fitted silhouettes and movement in an array of colors from neons to blush tones to nudes.
Derek Lam’s beauty look showcased a deep smokey eye and a soft pink lip stain by Estee Lauder and a nude nails. The Fall 2014 collection is a mix of sporty yet chic over-sized menswear inspired ensembles and feminine yet structured looks. There is also a variety of color in the collection with both warm earthy tones and pops of pastel.
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
The Diane Von Furstenberg show was my must-see show of the weekend. The Belgian American fashion designer is celebrating a milestone year commemorating her iconic wrap dress, which is her signature look that jump started her career in the fashion industry forty years ago at the young age of 26! During the pre-show, Diane Von Furstenberg explained the inspiration behind the famed wrap dress: the ballerina wrap sweater. In honor of the wrap dress and its inspiration, the beauty look for her Fall 2014 show, Bohemian Wrapsody, was ballet inspired makeup and hair buns. Before the show, the designer encouraged her models to “be strong, feel sexy, be you, and smile.” The DVF brand truly embodies my goal for 2014 to FEEL GOOD and LOOK GOOD.
The show kicked off with a number of black and white looks in classic DVF patterns. My favorite neutral piece is the black and tan fur jacket featured above. The rest of the Fall 2014 collection consisted of rich jewel tones in a number of iconic DVF prints and wrap styles. The show concluded with a special and memorable finale as each model took the runway in a gold wrap dress. Next the models congregated onstage with St. Vincent, who provided live music for the show as part of the AmexUnstagged partnership. As the models danced to the music, Diane Von Furstenberg hit the catwalk then joined the models and the band for a gold confetti filled finale. I think it’s safe to say that this show ended with the “happiness and joy of life” that DVF intended.
