Tory Burch Beauty is Here!

The wait is finally over! Tory Burch’s beauty line is officially available online as of today! Unlike most designers who test the beauty-waters by beginning with a fragrance, Burch went all in and rolled the dice on releasing a full collection including fragrance, cosmetics, and body. At the moment, the full line is available on Tory Burch’s site, but I’m hoping it will hit a department store soon so I can give that fragrance a whiff and take some of the other products for a test drive.

Your Fall Fashion Reading List is Here

The Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, isn’t the only fashion-forward lady with the perfect fall read. Model and TV personality Alexa Chung has a book available for pre-order. “It” will explore this “it” girl’s personal style, inspirations, and musings. The reading list continues with “The Truth About Style.” I don’t know about you, but I grew up on the a TLC show “What Not to Wear,” and for that reason alone I would give Stacy London’s new book a read. I suspect that like London, “The Truth About Style” tells it like it is, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. From what not to wear and the truth about style to The World According to Karl,” a compilation of Karlisms from none other than the Karl, Karl Lagerfeld. However, Lagerfeld isn’t the only powerhouse on the list. The biggest name in Barneys, Simon Doonan, has a novel available for purchase. His book, “The Asylum” seems to be a rendition of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” set in the fashion industry instead of an actual asylum. I’m guessing this is a must-read. Finally, stylist Lori Goldstein has composed an anthology of her work in her book “Lori Goldstein: Style Is Instinct,” available for pre-order. I imagine that fashion photographer Steven Meisel has written a captivating forward and that the images in this book will be astonishing.

Ladies who are fashion lovers know that fashion itself can serve as a character in a movie or TV show. Case and point, shows like “Sex and the City” and “Gossip Girl” or films like “A Single Man” or “The Great Gatsby.” Unfortunately, most of the time viewers, even fashion-loving viewers, aren’t thinking about the costume designers behind these iconic characters. However, we’re finally starting to see these designers gain some recognition. Janie Bryant, costume designer of AMC’s hit show “Mad Men,” has snagged collaborations with brands like Banana Republic and Brooks Brothers as well as several others. Mandi Line, costume designer of the tween drama “Pretty Little Liars,” hopes to launch her own line. What both of these women have in common is an agency, the Matchbook Company. Their new division that aims to change the view of these ladies and other costume designers from behind the scenes to at the forefront.
