In Case You Didn’t Hear What Happened In Fashion Today…
Shhh! I’ve got a secret: T.J.Maxx Launched an E-Commerce Site!

T.J.MAXX: DVF Handbag, $119.99, Joie Blouse, $89.99, DVF Pencil Skirt, $99.99, Elizabeth & James Bootie, $179.99
Tuesday, September 17, TJMaxx.com quietly went live. You know me, I’m always down for a good deal, but quite frankly, shopping at T.J.Maxx in-store requires far more patience and perseverance than I have. I certainly commend those who brave the endless racks to find the gems. Now, T.J.Maxx online is something I can get into, especially since they have a section called “The Runway” with the best designer deals. Ladies, this is looking dangerous. This section is filled with pieces from top name designers such as DVF, Joie, Elizabeth & James, and more!
Warby Parker Snags a Valuable New Board Member
J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler is joining the board of the booming eyewear brand Warby Parker. I’d say the brand has seriously snagged a gem and should expect some exponential growth in their future. Drexler is an industry powerhouse with decades of experience and involvement retail companies like Ann Taylor and Gap and business innovators like Apple. He has been on Apple’s board in 1999, and was a friend and colleague of the late Steve Jobs. My personal admiration for Drexler springs from his value of storytelling and aim to compose a narrative around J.Crew’s merchandise and, of course, his cameo on my all time favorite show, Breaking Bad.
Gucci Auctions Handbags for a Cause
Gucci donated three of its most popular styles of handbags to an auction hosted by Christie’s. The auction will online-only and run for one week, from Monday, September 23 through Monday, September 30. All of the proceeds will go to Chime for Change, a charity founded by Gucci that works to promote education, health, and justice for every girl, every woman, everywhere.
Road Trips Through Western Texas May Forever Change
The Prada Marfa installation located off U.S. Route 90 faces destruction. Although the structure is close to celebrating its eight-year anniversary, the Texas Department of Transportation has recently decided to deem the structure an “illegal outdoor advertising sign.” Because there was no dispute at the time the installation was completed in 2005, advocates of the structure hope there’s no viable basis for the artwork to be removed.
Expect Instagram to Evolve
Instagram has big plans for the future. The good news: the social media platform may become more interactive. Could it be that when a brand posts a fabulous item you just have to have, you’ll no longer have to go searching or leave a comment asking where to purchase the item? Instagram hopes to make it easier for the platform to serve as an e-commerce outlet. The (potential) downside: with the possibility to purchase comes ads. The company seems to be more definitive about this change, so anticipate sponsored pics in the next year.
The New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala is Today
It’s going to be a serious fashion scene at the annual NYCB fall gala to kick off the fall season. This year, the event is chaired by none other than the ultimate NYC fashion girl, Sarah Jessica Parker. The evening will include three world premiere ballets by Benjamin Millepied, Justin Peck, and Angelin Preljocaj with costume design by fashion powerhouse designers Iris Van Herpen, Prabel Gurung, and Oliver Theyskens respectively.
