Empire State of Mind
Today, I think we’re all in an empire state of mind as we remember the tragedy that struck this city and our nation 12 years ago. Since September 11, 2001, New York City and our nation have found the resilience to move forward from the attacks that took place that morning. We have come together, we have honored those lost, and we have rebuilt. This year, One World Trade Center was officially completed and now stands as the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and the fourth tallest building in the world. While New Yorkers and Americans will always remember the date 9/11 with reverence, we must also remember to celebrate our growth and perseverance through this disaster.
In addition to the numerous events and tributes honoring the memory of 9/11, New York Fashion week is in full swing in this robust city. As you may have read in my Brief History of New York Fashion Week, this event sprung from the impact of WWII and has been a part of NYC for 70 years. Through wars, terrorism, and strife, this city will not stop. New York Fashion Week continues through September 11, 2013, and it serves as proof that nothing can bring this city down.
